First Workshop on VIrtual exchange and Telecollaboration at University of Education Karlsruhe
01/19/2019: "Interdisciplinarity" was one of the key terms of the EVALUATE-Workshop Virtual Exchange and Telecollaboration which took place at the University of Education in Karlsruhe, Germany. Its participants came from different subjects (French, English, History), different professional groups (students, teacher seminars, school teachers, university lecturers) and different countries (Israel, Italy, Germany). The aim of the workshop was to introduce the concept of virtual exchange and to provide participants with tools to establish ongoing collaborative projects at their educational institutions.
Andreas Müller-Hartmann from Heidelberg University of Education began his guest lecture with a „How-To“ and overview of online exchanges. Götz Schwab from Karlsruhe and his colleague Tina Waldman from the Kibbutzim University of Education in Tel Aviv shared their experience from the joint virtual exchange seminar between Germany and Israel which took place for the fourth time this semester.
In the afternoon, the participants were able to get started with the learning platform Moodle or deepen their knowledge of Moodle. In various working groups different forms of virtual exchange were tested and discussed. Regarding its heterogeneous audience, this workshop pointed towards the future of telecollaboration which moves away from pure foreign language teaching and develops into an increasingly interdisciplinary field.
